Vertebral Axial Decompression – VAX-D
What is VAX-D?
VAX-D is a treatment for disabling low back pain developed by
the same doctor who pioneered the development of the heart
defibrillator, Dr. Alan Dyer, MD, Ph.D.
VAX-D means Vertebral Axial Decompression.
Here is a breakdown of what:
Vertebral – Means having to do with the bones which make up the spine.
Axial - VAX-D works along the length of the spine.
Decompression - To reduce pressure. VAX-D takes the pressure off the disc, spine and nerves.
VAX-D is effective in relieving the pain from herniated and bulging
discs as well as degenerative disc disease and several other sources of
back pain.
A patient undergoing VAX-D therapy is pictured. This patient is treated
on an out-patient basis. A recently published VAX-D Outcome Study (an
outcome study is research conducted on actual results therapy achieves
in real life, as opposed to laboratory research) showed that VAX-D was
extremely effective in 71% to 74% of the patients studied.
How does it work?
The lumbar spine (low back) is the most troublesome area of the spine
because of the stress and strain it receives. The spine is made up of
bones called vertebrae. The vertebrae are cushioned by the soft discs
which act as shock absorbers. As we age the outer layer of the disc
becomes thin and dries out. This causes the disc to become more
susceptible to injury. As the outer layer of the disc becomes injured,
the jelly like nucleus of the disc starts to leak out causing pressure
on the nerves. This is called a herniation. VAX-D reduces the
intradiscal pressure creating a vacuum like effect which helps retract
the leaking nucleus. This also pulls in fluids from the surrounding
tissues and rehydrates the disc. As a result the discs are now able to
get the oxygen and nutrients needed to heal themselves.
Key Benefits
• Non-surgical
• Highly effective; 71 to 74% result rate.
• Helps patients who have not
benefited from other forms of low back pain therapy such as massage,
Chiropractic, physical therapy, injections and medication to name a few.
• Effective even with very severe cases of low back pain including sciatica.
